Temari spilled the beans about Kankuro's birthday. After he was nice enough to wish Chouji a happy birthday and help cook, Chouji can hardly let the day go unnoticed.

He doesn't think Kankuro would want the fuss, though, so he doesn't mention it. Making anything in the kitchen of a floor full of ninja without its recipient noticing is difficult, but Chouji is a shinobi too. He chooses a time between meals and takes over the kitchen, keeping careful watch all the while.

Eventually, there is a cake on the counter, its icing reading "Happy birthday, Kankuro!"

Chouji smiles and leaves the kitchen.

Kankuro is tired once he makes it back to the Ninja floor. He's had a rather more exciting and terrifying birthday than he had had in years. Not the most pleasant day overall.

So coming into the kitchen, during a lull and spotting a cake on the counter has him both curious and a lot more paranoid than he would have been earlier. He approaches it cautiously, wondering briefly if he is destined to be haunted by confections. Though after careful though, he thinks it was the jellybean that really did him in.

Once closer Kankuro reads the cake and can't help but let out a startled noise. It certainly didn't look like one of Temari's cakes-from-the-realm-of-demons. It was far to neat for that and did even smell slightly singed. Also the kitchen was intact. That's another big hint actually. And then there is the handwriting. After helping Chouji out in the kitchen on the leaf nin's birthday he had had the chance to see his writing. It was pretty much identical.

Well, at least this one wouldn't send him into paranoid delusions. Kankuro can't help but grin even as he felt a bit touched. Taking the cake with care back to his and Temari's apartment, he stops by his room to grab one of his bead projects.

The bead bundle in hand he heads over to the Apartment he knew Chouji was staying in with Shikamaru and Ino and knocked on the door.

"Oi, Chouji!"

((ooc; Kankuro has just had the pleasure of being a victim of Loki's prank and ended up being haunted by Slender man. So he's a bit wary of cake at the moment. XD;

Annnnd Yes Kankuro is going to gift Chouji with a glass sun catcher as thanks and a sort of late b-day gift because not having to make his cake himself? Made his day.))

He answers the door, recognizing the voice. Kankuro must have found his cake by now. Chouji knows full well how predictable he is. Food left in the kitchen is often from Chouji, plus his handwriting might give it away. He didn't leave a note with his name, sure, but he also was hardly trying to remain anonymous.

Chouji smiles. "Happy birthday. Temari told me, otherwise I wouldn't have known it was today."
